THE NEW OLD LOCAL

THE NEW OLD LOCAL

I only ever visited our old local once. The woman behind the bar asked if I’d like a glass with my soft drink with such disdain that I never returned, and it closed not long after that. Probably because of its lack of glasses.

It has finally re-opened and I couldn’t be happier. Nor can the rest of the female locals apparently; my neighbours Jen and Jane have already claimed Fridays as Ladies Night, with the owner Jo whipping up little platters of nibbles to accompany a vino by the fire. I can imagine a procession of women holding up traffic swinging their tampons in the air as they enter the pub telling the men to step aside as they order their Chardonnay (apparently they sold out last Friday night).

They’re going to open for breakfast and serve coffee all day. They haven’t made a single renovation on the place yet, there are still holes in the wall from the old dart board but hey, they’re trying. Having an establishment like this so close to home is like living in the big smoke all over again. I might be clutching at straws here but I don’t give a damn.
